This very specialist area concentrates on two core functions within the network. Application Delivery comprises of technology that makes sure that core applications are available all the time without fail and that they are optimised for fast delivery to the users. Security comprises of technologies and services that reduce the risk of data and systems being compromised. There are a number of technologies in these two areas.
- Security - Penetration tests, firewalls, intrusion detection & prevention, identity management, authentication, web and email content management and internet gateway/end-user virus protection.
- Application delivery - Load balancing, optimization (compression, quality of service and rate shaping).
