‘Centre of Excellence’ chooses VMware from ADA

October 2008

ADA Technology Services has delivered one of the first VMware ‘Thin Client’ solutions in the UK higher education sector. Bishop Bell, the UKís first specialist maths and computing school, chose ADA to replace its current PC Network with ‘Thin Client’ devices, thereby creating a Virtual Desktop (VDI) based environment.

For the end user, the VMware solution resembled Bishop Bell's traditional PC network by supplying each pupil with the same Windows desktop interface. In addition, the VM ware solution will increase network security as there are no removable disc drives, thereby preventing the introduction of viruses to the network.

For Bishop Bell, the VMware ‘Thin Client’ solution will also have far reaching implications with regards to energy efficiency, thanks to lower powered CPUs and the removal of desktop storage. Further cost savings will be realised due to inexpensive hardware acquisition and minimal ongoing maintenance. Server class hardware also ensures greater redundancy.

ADA has an in-depth understanding of both desktop and server virtualisation and is a VMware Authorised Consulting (VAC) Partner. To find out how a virtualised platform could simplify your IT infrastructure and reduce costs, contact an ADA virtualisation specialist today.
