ADA delivers Smart Mesh Networking and 802.11n Wi-Fi for the Royal College of Music

ADA has delivered a multi-faceted wireless solution based on Ruckus wireless technology for the Royal College of Music. The solution, which employs Smart Mesh Networking is based on the Ruckus ZoneFlex 802.11n Wi-Fi platform. This new solution replaces the College’s legacy Wi-Fi infrastructure which struggled to deliver reliable wireless coverage through the network of sound proofed theatres, practice rooms and halls of residence.
The Royal College of Music selected the Ruckus ZoneFlex solution after exhaustive testing of competing WLAN systems from Aruba, Aerohive, Meru, Cisco, Saxnet and Xirrus. Not only did Ruckus offer a robust feature set and greater coverage, the solution’s ease of use and highly competitive price point made it the clear choice.
ADA supplied the relevant Wi-Fi infrastructure for the College to perform a ‘proof of concept’ and advised the in-house IT specialists on wireless environment best practice. ADA also performed a ‘light site survey’ to determine signal strength and the coverage of Ruckus Access Points (APs) onsite. Subsequent site surveys were unnecessary; the Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi APs continually performed ‘best path’ Wi-Fi signal selection to every associated client.
The deployed Ruckus ZoneFlex solution included ZoneFlex 2942 802.11g APs and a centralized ZoneDirector Smart WLAN controller its Kensington facility. At the residence hall, RCM installed a mix of 802.11n and 802.11g APs, using the same controller in Kensington to manage these APs over a Wide Area Network (WAN). The distributed processing architecture allows IT administrators to deploy Ruckus ZoneDirectors out of the data path and anywhere within a layer 3 IP network.
